Do you like getting your hands dirty, using various hand tools, and working in a team to get the job done? If so, Muskoka Conservancy’s Trail Team sounds like the perfect fit for you!
Role Responsibilities:
· Work with other members of the Trail Team and the Team Leader to cut back and maintain existing trails and create new trails
· Use a variety of hand tools to trim small trees, branches, and shrubs from the trail you are working on
· Assist with installing signage (trailhead, informational, directional)
· Use a template and white spray paint to blaze trails
· Assist with some trail projects such as building a footbridge
Qualifications:
· Comfortable using hand tools ex. Clippers, hand/bow saw, axe, hammer, wheelbarrow etc.
· Comfortable hiking in and around forests, wetlands, and rocky areas, in various conditions, including rain, heat, and with biting insects
· Comfortable working in a team and following directions from a leader
Why we do it?
· MC is proud to provide public trails on a select few nature Reserves, encouraging access to nature to members of the Muskoka Community
· Ongoing maintenance of the trails is required to keep them in good condition for hikers, and we need all hands on deck from the Trail team to make that happen
· When a new Nature Reserve is selected for the establishment of trails we need assistance with the cutting back and blazing of new trails
*Training on trail maintenance techniques will be provided
