Scott Young is attempting to determine how communities can thrive while keeping natural wilderness intact. This began while working on an experimental sea farm located in a small island community, where Scott observed the same stark imbalance unfolding to the detriment of wilderness that he noticed in the suburbs of Toronto, and also in Muskoka. Moving to Muskoka permanently in 1998, Scott found work as a reporter-photographer and gained a reputation for asking hard questions about development and its impact on the environment. He then spent four terms as a Muskoka District Councillor listening to hundreds of hours of public commentary that often highlighted the same imbalance. Scott’s volunteer roles with Muskoka Watershed Council, Muskoka Trails Council, and the Muskoka Community Foundation have all veered toward the same burning question. The quest continues at Muskoka Conservancy, where Scott is Executive Director. Scott enjoys sailing, canoe trips, rowing, snorkelling, diving, and shinny.
