Muskoka Welcome Nature Reserve is the newest property acquired by Muskoka Conservancy. This nature reserve totals 103 acres and consists of large wetland areas and rock barren habitats. It is situated adjacent to the Kahshe Lake Barrens, a Conservation Reserve that boasts many species at risk. Securing this property provides a beneficial wildlife corridor in the area, enhancing the protection for all species in the area.

The wetland habitats are dominated by open water marshes, with several larger open waterbodies as well. There is over 30 acres of wetland on the property, meaning that over a third of the property consists of incredibly valuable wetland habitat. Upland forests and rock barrens constitute the majority of the remaining acreage, with potential habitat for several species at risk. Muskoka Conservancy is excited to add this Nature Reserve to the 2,700 acres we currently protect!

The property was acquired through MC's new Quick Strike Fund with the generous support of The Kenneth M Molson Foundation with special thanks to Jessica Brunton. For information on how to contribute to the Quick Strike Fund, please call Scott Young at (705) 645-7393 ext. 204.
