Property Info

The South Monck Nature Reserve is located in Bracebridge and includes over 70 acres of natural area that are home to species at risk. The thicket area at the south edge of the property is a frequent birding hotspot. The property is largely characterized by hardwood (mainly sugar maple) with a mix of other conifers including white pine and hemlock. The woodlands are home to a variety of wildlife, including wintering areas for white-tailed deer. A pond on the property has been home to beavers for the last 30 years. Historically, agricultural practices were attempted on the property, and logging occurred in the early 1900s much like the rest of the region.
