Braaten Conservation Easement
The Braaten Conservation Easement, located in Lake Joseph, provides ecological connection to Island K’s nature reserve, and the two conservation easement agreements. The property includes a rocky shoreline with southwest exposure that rises 100 feet from the shoreline to the top of the lookout. The lookout provides an outstanding panoramic view to the southwest onto a large expanse of north Lake Joseph.
The higher elevation provides excellent nesting sites and perches for a wide variety of migratory birds. The dominant tree species are red and white pine, as well as red and white oak. Hardy species such as staghorn sumac, bracken fern, juniper, and blueberries are present.
